PAIN-RELIEVING JOINT INJECTIONS

Knee joint pain and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis can have a negative impact on our daily lives, especially if you have previously enjoyed such an active life. Wear and tear in the knee joint can make everyday activities such as walking and gentle exercise difficult with reduced mobility and pain.

We offer 3 different treatments for osteoarthritis here at SO Aesthetics. Our knee injection clinic is headed up by Consultant Orthopaedic knee surgeon Mr Andrew Pearse.

Mr Pearse offers steroid and HA knee joint injections (Durolane) and Arthrosamid for pain relief with effective results.

Steroid Injection

At SO Aesthetics we provide steroid knee joint injections for the treatment of inflammation and pain in joints which will help ease pain and increase movement. The procedure is done by injecting a corticosteroid directly into the affected joints.

Hyaluronic Acid Injection (Durolane)

Durolane is a single-injection treatment for knee osteoarthritis pain, using hyaluronic acid (HA) to lubricate and cushion the joint, providing relief for up to six months.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

  • What it is:

Durolane is a single-injection treatment containing hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in healthy joint fluid, that acts as a lubricant and shock absorber.

  • How it works:

Durolane is injected directly into the joint to restore the natural viscoelastic properties of the hyaluronic acid in the synovial fluid, reducing friction and cushioning the joint.

  • What it treats:

It's used to treat pain and stiffness associated with mild to moderate osteoarthritis in the knee.

  • How long it lasts:

Durolane can provide pain relief for up to six months.

  • How it is administered:

Durolane is administered as a single injection directly into the joint.

  • Is it right for you?

You may be a good candidate for Durolane if you have knee osteoarthritis and have not found adequate relief from other treatments, such as oral medications, physical therapy, or steroid injections.

  • Side effects:

Common side effects include warmth, pain, redness, stiffness, bruising, or puffiness at the injection site, as well as nausea, stomach pain, trouble walking, swelling, back pain, joint pain, muscle pain, numbness, tingling, headache, dizziness, runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, or sore throat.

  • Indications for use:

Durolane is indicated for the treatment of pain in osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee in patients who have failed to respond adequately to conservative non-pharmacological therapy or simple analgesics.
