Joint pain and stiffness can have such a negative impact on our daily lives. Especially if you have previously enjoyed such an active life.
Osteoarthritis is caused by wear and tear in the joint and can start to make daily activities such as walking and gentle exercise difficult with reduced mobility and pain.
The surfaces of the synovial joint are covered with a layer of synovial fluid that separates, lubricates and protects the joint cartilage from wear and tear.
The most important component of synovial fluid is Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant — a substance that retains moisture — and it is capable of binding over one thousand times its weight in water.
When there is osteoarthritis in a joint, the HA level is low, meaning less lubrication and protection, leading to pain and progression of the wear and tear.
Here at SO Aesthetics we are SO privileged to have top orthopaedic knee surgeon Mr Andrew Pearse hold a regular knee joint injection clinic with us. Mr Pearse has over 20 years experience working with and operating on knees.
Mr Pearse says, "Surgery for osteoarthritis can take significant time to recover from and carries risk. Therefore less invasive and highly effective safe alternatives are worth exploring."
Mr Pearse has been offering HA knee joint injections within the private sector for many years with amazing results however unfortunately they are becoming increasingly unavailable in the NHS due to the cost and capacity.
