What is a Gummy Smile?
When some people smile, their upper lip elevates further above their upper teeth, exposing the pink gum tissue. This is referred to as a gummy smile. It can happen due to a number of causes including:
• A hyperactive muscle which elevates the upper lip.
• A thin upper lip, known as a high lip line. This further contributes to the problem by revealing the upper gum even more.
• Teeth affected by an altered passive eruption.
In most of the cases as long as the height of the teeth is much more than the pink gum when a person smiles or talks, it is acceptable to people. But, when this ratio changes in favour of more pink gum showing than the white teeth it can feel unattractive, resulting in some people trying to improve their gummy smile.

What Is this Procedure?
It is administrated with a Botulinum Toxin (Botox) injection. A small amount of Botulinum Toxin will be injected to weaken the muscles. Within a few days after treatment, elevation of the upper lip will reduce showing less gums leaving the patient with a much more confident smile. The full result will be achieved 2 weeks after the treatment
How long does this treatment last?
The procedure lasts around 4-6 months. A plan for regular follow-up treatments to maintain the initial result can be created for you. If you choose not to have this treatment again, it will not have any adverse effects, eventually your smile will just return to how it was before.
